Haircut!

I have been dreading getting Ishu's hair cut professionally. I have a memory of my little brother screaming his head off when he was about Ishaan's age, and I'm still scarred.
But.. His hair started looking like this.

And I knew it was time.

We went to KidsBKids in Plano, and as soon as I walked in, I was so relieved.

The place was like Chuckee Cheese, except the teenagers in giant mouse costumes had been replaced with nice hairdressers who are good with kids.

She worked so fast, that when he was done, Ishaan asked if he could get his hair cut again! Here he is now, no more shaggy fringe.

Grandma on the Mend!

Thanks to everyone for their well wishes for Grandma (aka, renu, renu masi, mommy, kaki, & renu foi amongst other things.)

The surgery went well, and although she's not able to put any weight on her foot, she's doing a lot better. She and my dad have even offered to babysit! All this time I was worried about my kids during babysitting trips-- I should have been worried about my parents.

Anyhow, Mommy being on couch rest has really brought home how much she actually does. We are all scrambling to fill all her 'jobs'. Taking care of her parents, my parents, her kids, my kids, the dog... the list goes on. I'm crossing my fingers that the recovery process goes quickly and smoothly!

Get Well Soon, Grandma!

As I'm sure everyone knows, my mom (AKA Grandma) broke her leg a little over a week ago. She's been healing and dealing with it in a plaster cast while she waits for the surgery-- which is today!

No... my kids didn't run her over with a car.

This is one of the times that words just fail me. It's been a tough couple of weeks for her. I'm just praying that the surgery goes well. I know she's looking forward to being on the road to recovery. :)

Leftovers Quilt- *In Progress*

I finally fished the top I started with those cute owl print leftovers.
This quilt is nearly lap size, and has a lot more white in it (I needed to stretch those scraps!)
I did end up purchasing two more prints-- my favorite is this sweet orange flower print.

I'm still debating weather to put borders on it, and am totally lost as to what to do for backing and binding. At this rate, it will be done sometime next year!

Amaani's First Hair cut!

Amaani got her first hair cut! Really we just trimmed the back-- She had a bit of a 'tail' growing in the back. Even then, I'm shocked at what a difference it made to her overall 'look'.

I never really understood getting emotional over a first hair cut. That is, until I had kids of my own. There's something about snipping that first lock of hair, and realizing that those are the same little strands that you kissed on the first day you held her that just makes you go mushy! All you childless readers-- this will be you someday.

Here's what it looks like from the back. In other big news, Amaani broke her first tooth! It's not visible yet from the front, but I'll post a picture of her first toothy smile when it does.

Mama Made: Pillow Cases

In an effort to encourage both kids to actually sleep in their own beds, I made a few flannel pillow cases.

I used this tutorial by the Missouri Star Quilt company.  I fudged the measurements a bit to use scraps I had laying around, and added real piping on Ishaan's pillow; instead of the faux piping shown in the video.

Both kids love their pillows, but don't like the camera today, so no pictures of them. Here is a close up of Bob.
And Amaani's flowers, fake piping and contrast band.(These colors are so her!) Who knew my daughter would love pink so much!

So far no go on the sleeping by themselves, and these pillows have taken up residence in our living room amongst the rest of the kids play things.

The tutorial worked fairly well for Amaani's pillow, but not so much for sandwiching the piping for Ishaan's pillow. Ishaan requested the pillow in the evening (he spied the fabric but it wasn't enough for a blanket). I was sure that I'd have it done by bed time. I ended up sewing the piping in twice, and still had a hole in it by the time I was done. Luckily, (insert eye roll here) Ishaan didn't go to sleep until midnight, so nothing lost.

I think I will make more of these, though (but follow the directions exactly, next time).

Flashback Friday: Ben and KakaDada

Last week we had to say good by to my dad's parents. The had come for a visit a little before Niki's wedding, and returned to New York last week.

We had fun hanging out in the front yard a bit, the evening before they left.

We celebrated Dada's birthday.

Amaani and Ishaan (and all of us!) miss them terribly! But I'm sure we'll be meeting again very soon.

It's that time of year again....

My sister surprised us with a pepper plant last week. It's planted....

And watered.

Hopefully we'll have better luck than last year!
